Educational Objectives:

After completing this continuing education program, the participant will be able to:

  • Review the role of bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • Outline the various COPD devices (eg, metered dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers, soft mist inhalers, nebulizers) with an emphasis on step-by-step administration.
  • Indicate an individualized COPD inhaler regimen based on patient and disease-specific factors.
  • Discuss the pharmacist’s role in optimizing inhaler technique and patient adherence.
