Pharmacists will do a disservice to consumers/patients if they continue to "dumb down" everything ! APAP alone is an OTC drug and even with a liberal arts degree, I have no difficulty understanding that it is an abbreviation for acetaminophen or in remembering the daily limits of safe APAP ingestion. As a consumer, a patient or as a parent, I have the responsibility to know what drugs I am choosing for myself or my children are composed of, their side effects and safe dosages. I have always believed consumer responsibility to be the cornerstone of OTC medications. In the case of APAP with or without another drug added, such as hydrocodone, these drugs are optional and palliative, not curative and my choice to use, whether purchased OTC or by Rx. With choice comes the obligation to learn about the medication. Please do not treat lay people as dumb or unwilling to learn :)
