Drugs and Bugs

Haymarket Media

Created by Monthly Prescribing Reference, Drugs and Bugs matches antibiotics and infections based on which medicines work best against a particular bug.

Pharmacists can search a database of more than 100 antibiotics and 200 bacterial infections, either alphabetically or by bacterial or pharmacologic class. The application’s Smart Search feature allows searches by pathogen, type of infection, and brand or generic drug name.

Detailed medication information includes dosing, administration, directions for use, and conditions it can treat. The app also lists side effects, conflicting conditions, or drug interactions that would rule out a treatment course. In addition, a dosage calculator allows pharmacists to compute the amount of medication in a solution, as well as bookmark commonly prescribed medicines.

Data is stored within the 3.1 MB program, so pharmacists can access it without a network connection. Many of the pages are interlinked too, which allows the pharmacist to shift between areas with a single touch.
