Sumatriptan Succinate Injection
Sandoz (Princeton, NJ) recently introduced Sumatriptan
Succinate Injection.
The product is the generic equivalent
of GlaxoSmithKline?s
Imitrex. Sumatriptan Succinate
Injection is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine
headaches with or without aura and the acute treatment of cluster headache episodes. The product is not for use in
the management of hemiplegic or basilar headache. The
maximum single recommended adult dose of Sumatriptan
Succinate Injection is 6 mg injected subcutaneously. The
maximum recommended dose that may be given in 24
hours is two 6-mg injections separated by at least 1 hour.
Each 0.5 mL of Sumatriptan Succinate Injection 12-mg/
mL solution contains 6 mg of sumatriptan (base) as the
succinate salt and is supplied as a clear, colorless to pale
yellow, sterile, nonpyrogenic solution in the following
packs: two 6-mg single-dose prefilled syringe cartridges
with a patient information leaflet with instructions for use
and a single-dose vial in cartons containing 5 vials. For

Nexterone (amiodarone HCl) Injection
Prism Pharmaceuticals Inc (King of Prussia, PA) recently
received FDA approval for its new drug application for
Nexterone. The product is an antiarrhythmic agent indicated
for initiation of treatment and prophylaxis of frequently
recurring ventricular fibrillation (VF) and hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients
refractory to other therapy. Nexterone also can be used
to treat patients with VT/VF for whom oral amiodarone is
indicated, but who are unable to take oral medication. The
recommended starting dose of Nexterone is about 1000
mg over the first 24 hours of therapy. Nexterone is available
in single-use glass vials packaged in individual cartons
of 150 mg/3 mL in a 5-mL vial, 450 mg/9 mL in a 10-mL
vial, and 900 mg/18 mL in a 20-mL vial. The product also
is available in single-use glass prefilled syringes packaged
in blister packs of 150 mg/3 mL in a 5-mL prefilled syringe.
