Congressional leaders have forged a new Capitol Hill coalition to advance legislation designed to address the problems facing community pharmacy.
The new Congressional Community Pharmacy Coalition will dedicate itself to ?finding legislative solutions that preserve patient access to independent community pharmacies and the valuable services they provide,? said House members in announcing the new organization. The bipartisan group is being cochaired by Reps Marion Berry (D, Ark), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R, Wash), Jerry Moran (R, Kan), and Anthony Weiner (D, NY).
?Independent community pharmacies face enormous challenges in maintaining their economic viability as a result of many issues, including payment delays for Medicare Part D drug claims,? said coalition leaders. According to the coalition, ?these challenges are not due to natural changes in the free market, but because of preventable obstacles that create a hostile business environment for community pharmacies.?
