Publix Super Markets is now offering a free prescription drug program involving 7 oral antibiotics at the chain?s 684 pharmacies in 5 states. These antibiotics account for nearly 50% of the generic pediatric prescriptions at Publix.

The prescription antibiotics available under the program are amoxicillin, cephalexin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, ciprofloxacin (excluding ciprofloxacin XR), penicillin VK, ampicillin, and erythromycin (excluding Ery-Tab).

The drug program provides the free antibiotics to patients regardless of their prescription-drug provider. Patients can receive up to a 14-day supply of the free antibiotics after providing the pharmacy with their prescription. Publix is not limiting the number of prescriptions patients can fill for free.

?With health care and prescription costs on the rise, our free prescription-drug program will reinforce our commitment to the total health and wellness of our customers and their families,? said Dwaine Stevens, Publix media and community relations manager.
