Bar Codes Say It All

Medi-Dose's (Ivyland, Pa) 2-D Bar Coding is a new component of the MILT 2.6 software. The MILT program accommodates 2-D and Multi-Part Bar Codes for liquid packaging, syringes, and ampules, along with tablets and capsules. The additional bar-code features allow clinicians to combine National Drug Codes, lot numbers, and expiration dates into a small but readable bar code on the company's LiquiDose and Mini LiquiDose labels. MILT can interpret bar codes from medication manufacturers and print them directly on the unit-dose packaging. The software minimizes the potential for medication errors and helps ensure accuracy right up to the patient's bedside. For more information, visit www.medidose.com, or call 800-523-8966.

EPS Introduces Innovative Pharmacy Environment

PDX-Rx.com's (Fort Worth, Tex) Enterprise Pharmacy System (EPS) features an advanced enterprise-wide work-flow system with electronic health care record technology and a revenue-based medication therapy management (MTM) module. The advanced enterprise work-flow technology built into EPS not only facilitates efficient work flow with individual pharmacies, but also provides for balancing the workload across an entire chain. As a result, pharmacies can increase efficiency by allowing specific tasks to be shared among stores, call centers, and centers of excellence within the chain. Among the centralized files EPS accesses, the electronic health care record facilitates the realtime, chain-wide exchange of demographic, prescription, clinical, and transaction data. Using this technology, pharmacies can fill prescriptions and perform true chain-wide drug utilization review for patients, regardless of which pharmacies in the chain they shop. The EPS and the PDX Pharmacy System are integrated with the Rx.com AutoMail program. Using the AutoMail program, the MTM programs enable pharmacies to enroll in different programs designed to increase persistency and better manage chronic medical conditions. System Creates Complete Medical Record

Clinical Support Services Inc's (Buffalo, NY) PMR Smart now allows patients to record and monitor their vitals, such as blood pressure, weight, and glucose readings. These self-monitoring data, combined with prescription details and physician medical reports, create a comprehensive medical record for the patient. PMR Smart is an integral part of the company's medication therapy management software system. As part of the personal medical records software, pharmacists can streamline a process to create secure, Web-based personal medical records that health care providers, patients, and their caregivers can access from virtually anywhere there is a broadband Internet connection. Remote Fill Gets Pharmacists Back to Patient Counseling

HCC's (Fort Worth, Tex) Remote Fill option allows a pharmacy to shift the filling of assigned prescriptions to a fulfillment service provider (central-fill site) or to a self-operated centralized fulfillment operation. By centralizing the automation, pharmacies can take advantage of one centralized robotic setup instead of paying for robotics in individual stores, or they can participate in central-fill provider solutions. Prefilled prescriptions are delivered to the pharmacies so that they are ready for the patient on time. By removing the refill labor component from the pharmacy, pharmacists will have more time to spend managing their pharmacies and caring for their patients. All the prescriptions are processed through FDA EZ Data Warehouse, where formulary rules are applied to identify qualifying prescriptions. These selected prescriptions are enrolled in the Auto Refill Maintenance program. The pharmacy is notified approximately 7 days prior to the next refill date via a message in the HCC pharmacy system Rx queue. The pharmacy staff chooses whether the prescription is filled locally or allocated to the Remote-Fill provider. Remote-filled prescriptions are delivered back to the pharmacy for quality control review and patient pickup. For more information, visit www.hcccare.com, or call 888-727-5422.
