Medical Group Implements EHRs

Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), part of Thomas Jefferson University, will implement Allscripts' TouchWorks Electronic Health Record (EHR) for 480 physicians and 700 residents. With TouchWorks EHR, JUP physicians will have immediate access to clinical records from any of the group's 75 practice locations, the hospital, or remotely. It will provide a seamless connection to other administrative and clinical systems used by Jefferson.

After a 2-year evaluation of EHR vendors, JUP selected Allscripts for its industry leadership and its track record of successful EHR implementations at academic medical centers across the country. Allscripts will also provide standardized interoperability with the physicians group's existing IDX Flowcast practice management system, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's acute care clinical information system. Allscripts' EHR solution will give JUP physicians the ability to automate many of their daily responsibilities such as prescribing medications, ordering laboratory tests, and viewing test results.

"Our partnership with Allscripts im proves our ability to create a premier, patient-focused, integrated physician practice, while enhancing our tradition as a distinguished academic medical center," said Robert Barchi, MD, PhD, president of Thomas Jefferson University and chair of the JUP Board. "It is essential that we provide our residents and fellows access to leading technology, and the electronic health record has emerged as a mission- critical tool for 21st-century medicine. It was clear that Allscripts is the ‘solution of choice' to align our integrated practice with an integrated clinical information system."
