The Consumer Health Education Center's (CHEC's) educational campaign, the Doctor in the House, recognizes women as the health care decision makers (71% of US households) and main buyers of OTC medications (73%). Launched by the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, CHEC's research found that patients can benefit from a better understanding of OTC safety, specifically the important information on Drug Facts labels regarding side effects, active ingredients, and drug interactions.
The Doctor in the House campaign includes an educational brochure Over-the-Counter Medicines: Keeping You and Your Family Healthy. The pamphlet includes information on how to read the OTC Drug Facts medicine label, tips for administering medicines to children, and the importance of talking with pharmacists and other health care professionals about OTC medications.
