APhA Applauds CMS Efforts

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) praised the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for explaining the marketing guidelines for the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit and for finding the right balance of applying proper safeguards without restricting pharmacists. Under the new rules, pharmacists can help patients in objectively assessing patients' needs and identifying the plan options that meet those needs.

"Allowing pharmacists to continue to play an advisory role in the care of their patients is critical to the successful implementation of this benefit. Every day, patients trust their pharmacist to help them make medication-related decisions," said John A. Gans, PharmD, executive vice president of APhA.
