Women Need More Cholesterol 101

The CholesterALL Survey of 2700 women found that many do not known the difference between low-density lipoprotein (LDL; "bad") cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL; "good") cholesterol. Furthermore, 25% of the respondents had experienced a heart attack or stroke, have diabetes, or have cardiovascular disease. The on-line survey found the following:

"The survey findings tell us that something has been lost in the dialogue about cholesterol disorders in women. There is a lack of knowledge and understanding that there are different types of cholesterol and different ways to address each," said Suzanne Hughes, RN, MSN, past president of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association.
