In an effort to help parents and caregivers administer OTC medications for the cold and flu season, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association and the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research have rereleased Kids Aren't Just Small Adults. The pamphlet offers 10 tips on how to give OTC medicines safely to children. The pamphlet is also available in Spanish.
Recommendations in the pamphlet include reading and following the OTC Drug Facts label, which has all the necessary information to safely give a medicine to a child; using the appropriate dosing or measuring tool; and becoming familiar with active ingredients.
"It's so important for parents to understand that OTC medications are real medicines that must be taken with care," said Linda A. Suydam, DPA. For more information, visit www.chpa-info.org.
