Albertsons is going the extra mile for its employees on active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Employees at the Boise, Idaho, headquarters recently donated their time to assemble care packages of items donated by the company for each of the company's 200 Guard and Reserve employees.
The care packages included disposable cameras, playing cards, toothpaste, and telephone calling cards, as well as a banner of support signed by the employees. Also, the company is shipping 185 of its surplus computers to Camp Anaconda, the main Army base in central Iraq. Often, service personnel have to wait hours in line to send an e-mail home to their loved ones. The company also has agreed to pay the difference between the employees' military and civilian pay and to continue benefits for the employees and their families.
