Diagnosing Osteoporosis

JUNE 20, 2012
In this podcast, Shreyasee Amin, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, discusses the recommended schedule for bone density tests to detect osteoporosis. Typically, physicians suggest the test at age 65 for women and 70 for men, although certain risk factors can require earlier testing, Dr. Amin says. She notes some of the common risk factors for osteoporosis, including use of steroids, and discusses some preventive measure patients can take, such as daily calcium and vitamin D supplements, and exercise.
