Three Armed Robbery Attempts Made at Pharmacies in the Last Week

Police in Pennsylvania and Missouri recently reported 3 armed robbery attempts made at pharmacies.

A police officer in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, shot 1 of 2 men suspected of committing an armed robbery at Westbrook Heights Pharmacy in Clifton Heights on the night of October 21, 2014.

The duo allegedly held up the pharmacy around 7:45 p.m., leaving with approximately $30, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Police attempted to pull the men over after receiving license plate information from witnesses at the store.

The men allegedly fled the vehicle after crashing into a pole. One suspect allegedly pulled a 9 mm handgun, causing the pursuing officer to fire his own weapon 3 times. The suspect sustained a shot in the thigh, dropped his weapon, and was then taken into custody.

Police have not yet located the second suspect, but they found a .45-caliber semiautomatic gun and a .38-caliber revolver discarded near the scene. The suspects’ vehicle contained a .38-caliber revolver, several hundred rounds of ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and a dozen plastic zip ties.

In another part of Pennsylvania, police arrested and charged a husband and wife couple on October 20, 2014, following an armed robbery at a Rite Aid in Upper Dublin Township.

William Carpenter, 33, and Tanitra Thompson Carpenter, 34, of Horsham Township, Pennsylvania, allegedly entered the pharmacy, pointed a weapon at an employee, and handed the employee a note demanding drugs, NBC Philadelphia reports. The couple allegedly fled the scene on foot with several pill bottles, firing 1 shot from their weapon, though no employees were hurt.

They were later located at the Residence Inn in Horsham Township, where police discovered a gunshot would to Tanitra Carpenter’s right calf.

In Missouri, an employee of the Family Pharmacy near Branson allegedly shot a male suspect in the side during an armed robbery attempt on the morning of October 21, 2014.

According to OzarksFirst.com, Taney County Sheriff Deputies are investigating the robbery, during which the suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and had been pointing it at people in the store when he was shot. The suspect then fled the pharmacy while firing back multiple times, though no one in the store was injured.

The suspect sustained a non-life threatening wound and was taken to a hospital for treatment prior to transport to the county jail.
