When a robber revealed a gun at a pharmacy counter in Pinch, West Virginia, the pharmacist reacted by pulling out his own gun and shooting and killing the man, according to WSAZ3.

Patrick Good, the owner of Good Family Pharmacy, told WSAZ3 that the pharmacist first thought the man who walked in with his head and face covered was bracing for the cold weather, but that was obviously not the case when the man revealed his gun. Good also told WSAZ3 that the pharmacist, who was unnamed, had also actually joked that the man was there to rob them.

When the pharmacist saw the robber’s gun, he pulled out his own and shot the man twice in the chest. While police and emergency crews were notified of the incident around 9:45 a.m. on February 11, 2015, the pharmacy staff began lifesaving measures on the suspect. However, the unnamed suspect died from his injuries at the hospital.

According to police, the pharmacist will not be charged at this time based on witness interviews and video evidence. Police Chief Deputy Mike Rutherford told WSAZ3 that the pharmacist appeared to have been acting out of protection for himself and the business.

"You can't just be passive when people come in trying to rob you,” Good told WSAZ3. “I mean, you work all of your life for stuff like this, and you can't just let someone take it away from you.”

Good added that he had no issues with his employees carrying guns.

The owner told WSAZ3 that the pharmacist involved was not physically hurt, but is shaken emotionally from the incident.
