Next-Generation Pharmacist Awards Open for Nominations

Nominate a deserving pharmacist, tech, or pharmacy student today for the 4th annual awards program, presented by Pharmacy Times in partnership with Parata Systems.

Do you know a hard-working, inspiring pharmacist who exemplifies what the pharmacy profession can and should be? Help them get the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Next-Generation Pharmacist™ award.
 
Nomination forms are available at www.nextgenerationpharmacist.com. The deadline for entries is April 15, 2013, and nominations can be submitted directly from the website or printed out and sent in via mail.
 
This unique awards program is open to licensed pharmacists practicing in all environments, including chain, independent, institutional, and government settings, as well as technicians and student pharmacists. This year, for the first time, a Specialty Pharmacist of the Year will be selected.
 
The awards, presented by Pharmacy Times in partnership with Parata Systems, will be given in the following categories:
  1. Civic Leader of the Year
  2. Entrepreneur of the Year
  3. Future Pharmacist of the Year
  4. Lifetime Achievement Award
  5. Military Pharmacist of the Year
  6. Patient Care Provider of the Year
  7. Rising Star of the Year
  8. Specialty Pharmacist of the Year
  9. Technician of the Year
  10. Technology Innovator of the Year
One of the category winners in the pharmacist categories will be chosen to receive the program’s highest honor—the 2013 Next-Generation Pharmacist™ award—which recognizes a pharmacist with an exceptional vision for the pharmacy profession or industry as a whole.
 
Nominations will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges chaired by Pharmacy Times Editor-in-Chief Fred Eckel. The Next-Generation PharmacistTM awards will be presented at a special gala dinner event held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday, August 11, 2013, concurrent with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores’ Total Store Expo.

Pharmacists are getting closer to obtaining provider status, as federal legislation that would enable pharmacists to provide health care services to Medicare patients in underserved communities has been reintroduced in the US Senate and House of Representatives.
Bipartisan legislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives today would formally designate pharmacists as healthcare providers under Medicare Part B. Supported by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the bill would amend The Social Security Act of 1935 to enable pharmacists to provide to Medicare patients in underserved communities services that pharmacists already are providing for other patients under state law.
Emphasizing the importance of promoting policies that improve patient outcomes and lead to healthier, safer communities, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores submitted a statement to the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health in lead-up to today’s hearing titled “Examining Public Health Legislation to Help Patients and Local Communities.”
In support of pharmacy refill reminder programs and other healthcare communications by pharmacies, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores recently filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission requesting regulatory clarification regarding prior consent for calls to consumers’ cell phones for healthcare notifications.
