Sarah Rowan, PharmD,
pharmacy manager in
Macon, Georgia, has been
named the 2008 Kmart
Pharmacist of the Year.
Rowan was selected from
among 6 Kmart Divisional
Pharmacists of the Year
honored recently at the
chain's Pharmacy National
Conference.
Rowan won both the top
national award and southern
division honors for her
work providing important
health care services to
Macon's 97,000 residents, a third of whom live below the
poverty level. She counsels patients on a wide range of health
concerns, from blood pressure screenings to diabetes management,
and was described as "the best customer-oriented pharmacist
I have ever seen . . . the epitome of a team player," by
one nominator.
"Since 1991, the Kmart Pharmacist of the Year award has
recognized Kmart pharmacists who use their knowledge and
resources to improve the overall wellness of their communities,"
said Howard Kramer, RPh, Kmart's director of pharmacy human
resources and government affairs. "Sarah Rowan exemplifies
the important leadership role of today's Kmart pharmacist in
consumer health care."
