MedBoard Improves
Pharmacy Operations
 |
Baxa Corp (Englewood, CO) recently
launched the MedBoard Medication
Tracking System (MTS). The
Web-based medication tracking system
is designed to record pharmacy
preparation and delivery activities. The
first wireless tracking system, it helps
health systems improve productivity
through order prioritization and delivery
assurance, reducing time spent
fielding nursing calls and tracking order
status. The MedBoard MTS’ order monitoring
reduces waste by identifying
time-sensitive orders and ensuring ontime
delivery. Built-in reports allow
pharmacy managers to demonstrate
performance by delivery times, order
type, nursing unit, and more. With the
MedBoard MTS, pharmacies can manage
work flow using bar-code technology,
improving efficiency and patient
safety by providing tracking for doses
that are not part of the pharmacy’s automated
dispensing cabinets. The system
requires only a Web browser and
handheld scanners to get started. For
more information, visit www.baxa.com,
or call 800-567-BAXA (800-567-2292).
MetaCare eMAR Reduces
Med Errors
Meta Pharmacy Systems (Floral
Park, NY) recently launched Meta-Care Enterprise eMAR, a Web-based
point-of-care medication-administration
system designed to monitor and
reduce medication errors with barcode
technology. Upon scanning the
patient’s wristband bar code, MetaCare
Enterprise eMAR identifies and verifies
the patient, searches for the medications
that have been ordered for the
patient, and cross-checks for possible
drug allergies and interactions. Subsequent
scanning of the actual medication
packaging verifies the correct drug,
dose, route of administration, and schedule.
In addition, by efficiently automating
the medication-administration
process, the system allows hospital
pharmacies to more efficiently track
medication inventory while providing
the 5 rights of drug administration. For
more information, call 800-768-1920, or

AVF-6 Streamlines
Pharmacy Work Flow
TCGRx’s (Powers Lake, WI) AVF-6
system features automated counting
of medications. The device is well-suited
for dispensing control medications
or contaminate medications through
its dedicated chutes. The AVF-6, combined
with TCGRx’s shelving options,
can automate any number of medications.
Medication cassettes are compatible
with larger automation devices,
so, as automation needs to grow, current
automation is not obsolete. The
AVF-6 system also is an effective way
to automate high-moving oral solids.
The large-capacity canisters (up to
2200 cc) require less refill time for
large or fast-moving medications.
Optional components of the AVF-6
include additional medication canisters
to cover all of the large pills and fastmoving
medications and shelving for
handling additional high-volume medication
canisters. For more information,

ESC Helps Prevent Drug
Counterfeiting
 |
Secure Symbology’s (Paramus, NJ)
Electronic Sequence Code (ESC)
program is a single-source solution for
counterfeiting. The system can be
installed and implemented within 90
days on any type of pharmaceutical
packaging. The program applies globally
accepted standard 2-dimensional
bar-code symbology in a unique way to
serialize individual product units and,
eventually, all levels of packaging. The
ESC system combines technology to
print, scan, verify, compile, and transfer
serialized data, establishing a database
of a product’s packaging and
shipment history. The product creates
a practical electronic pedigree for
every individual unit, and, as a result,
serialized product data and verification
are available globally for any
authorized supply-chain member
(manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler,
and retailer) through a secure application
software platform. The ESC system
is able to create distinctive bar-code
labels for unit-level packaging. A realtime
fingerprint is printed on the package,
stored in a database, and made
accessible online. Products can be
tracked throughout their lifetime by
connecting bar-code scanners to Web
browsers. For more information, visit
www.securesymbology.com.
