Pharmacists
now have an
educational tool
to prepare them
to deliver medication
therapy
management
(MTM) services in the community pharmacy
setting. The interactive CD-ROM program,
titled Medication Therapy Management:
Training & Techniques for Providing MTM
Services in Community Pharmacy, is
designed to assist pharmacists in improving
their knowledge and skills in working
with patients to resolve medication-therapy
issues.
The program follows a process created
to enhance care, improve the dialogue
among patients and providers, improve
coordination of care, and optimize medication
use, which can lead to better patient
outcomes. Using a video presentation, the
program demonstrates the most advantageous
communication strategies for interacting
with both patients and prescribers,
in addition to offering tips on developing a
patient and referral base and building an
MTM practice. The program follows a pharmacist
and a patient through a complete
medication review, explains the core elements
of MTM services, and demonstrates
how to apply them to the patient. The program
is accredited for 2.5 hours of continuing
pharmacy education credit.
The program is the newest in a series of
MTM services developed in a collaboration
between the National Association of Chain
Drug Stores Foundation and the American
Pharmacists Association. The CD-ROM can
be ordered at www.pharmacist.com or
www.nacdsfoundation.org or by telephone
at 800-878-0729; use code D6001.
