A study reported recently in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine looked for a
correlation between chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and sleep disorders. The
study evaluated sleep quality, sleep disorders, physical health, daytime sleepiness,
fatigue, and psychological adjustment in patients with CFS, patients with
narcolepsy, and a control group. The findings confirmed the researchers'predictions
the CFS group had a higher occurrence of sleep disorders.
The data showed that 15% had sleep apnea, 27% had sleep hypopnea, 12%
had periodic limb movement disorder, and 4% had restless leg syndrome. Furthermore,
the CFS group reported higher rates of insomnia (86%).
