Drug Chains Alliance Rolls Out Discount Card

Eligible seniors can begin enrolling in the Pharmacy Care Alliance's Medicare Drug Discount card, which received approval from Medicare in March 2004. Designed by pharmacists, this card can help Medicare beneficiaries lower their drug costs by as much as 40% on generic drugs and 20% on brand name drugs.

The Pharmacy Care Alliance card will be available at all participating network pharmacies to all Medicare beneficiaries in the United States and its territories, except for those who have prescription drug coverage under certain state medical assistance programs such as Medicaid. The purpose of this drug discount card is to help enrolled seniors with prescription drug costs until Medicare begins providing prescription drug benefit coverage, expected to start in January 2006. The alliance links the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and Express Scripts.
