Indication: Seizalam is a benzodiazepine indicated for the treatment of status epilepticus in adults.

Insight:

  • Dosing: Injection: 50 mg/10 mL (5 mg/mL) in a multiple-dose vial.
  • Dosage forms: The recommended dose is 10 mg, administered by intramuscular injection.
  • Adverse events: The most common adverse reactions (incidence >3%) in clinical trials in patients with status epilepticus were upper airway obstruction, agitation, and pyrexia.
  • Mechanism of action: The exact mechanism of action for midazolam in the treatment of status epilepticus is not fully understood but is thought to involve potentiation of GABAergic neurotransmission resulting from binding at the benzodiazepine site of the GABAA receptor.
